Historic Hastings Church Receives Grant for Urgent Restoration Work
A historic church in Hastings has secured new funding to begin a major restoration project aimed at preserving the landmark building. Holy Trinity Church, a Grade II listed site dating back to 1858, has been awarded a £50,000 grant to support initial repair efforts.
The funding has been provided by the National Churches Trust and follows a larger grant previously secured from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Together, the financial support will help address critical structural issues that have placed the church on Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register.
Officials say the building has suffered significant deterioration, particularly in its stonework, which has become severely eroded over time. Cracks in the structure have allowed water to enter, increasing the urgency of repairs to prevent further damage. Planned works include restoring stone surfaces, repairing the roof, and replacing gutters to ensure the building is protected from damp and weather exposure.
The restoration project is not only focused on preserving the physical structure but also on strengthening community involvement. Organizers aim to recruit volunteers to support the church’s long term maintenance and engagement with the public.
As work begins, the project highlights the importance of protecting historic sites that hold cultural and architectural value. The funding marks a key step toward securing the future of one of Hastings’ most recognized landmarks.
