Pope Leo XIV Appoints Sr. Nina Krapić as Deputy Director of Holy See Press Office
Pope Leo XIV has appointed Sister Nina Benedikta Krapić as the new Deputy Director of the Holy See Press Office, marking a leadership transition within the Vatican’s communications structure. The appointment was announced in the daily bulletin of the Holy See Press Office on Friday. She will assume the role on March 1, 2026.
Sister Nina succeeds Cristiane Murray, who has served as Deputy Director since July 2019. Murray met with Pope Leo XIV in a private audience prior to stepping down from her position. Her tenure spanned a period of significant global and ecclesial developments, during which the Press Office played a central role in communicating the activities and messages of the Pope and the Holy See to international media.
Born in Rijeka, Croatia, on June 7, 1989, Sister Nina brings a multidisciplinary background to her new role. She earned a degree in Law from the University of Rijeka in 2015 and later completed a specialization in Public Relations at the University of Zagreb in 2023. Her academic formation reflects a combination of legal expertise and communication strategy, both essential in navigating the complex landscape of global media and institutional messaging.
She professed her perpetual vows in the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul on August 13, 2023. In addition to her religious vocation, she has worked as a journalist and as a legal advisor assisting women who are victims of domestic violence and other marginalized individuals. Her experience also includes serving as head of communications for Caritas of the Archdiocese of Rijeka, where she coordinated outreach and media engagement for charitable initiatives.
Since 2023, Sister Nina has been an official of the Dicastery for Communication, the Vatican department responsible for overseeing the Holy See’s media operations. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Social Sciences at the Collegium Maximum of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, further deepening her academic engagement with contemporary social and communication challenges.
Paolo Ruffini, Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication, expressed gratitude for Cristiane Murray’s years of dedicated service and welcomed Sister Nina to her new role. He noted her professional competence and human qualities, expressing confidence in her ability to contribute effectively to the mission of the Holy See Press Office.
The appointment reflects the ongoing development of the Vatican’s communication strategy under Pope Leo XIV, emphasizing professionalism, pastoral sensitivity and clarity in engaging with the global public sphere.
