Pope Leo XIV calls for compassion and unity during visit to elderly care home in Angola
Pope Leo XIV continued his Apostolic Journey to Angola with a visit to the northeastern city of Saurimo, where he met elderly residents at a government run care home and delivered a message focused on compassion, forgiveness, and social responsibility. The visit marked the third day of his trip and highlighted the importance of caring for vulnerable members of society. During his interaction with residents, the Pope emphasized that true national strength can be measured by how a country treats its weakest citizens, particularly the elderly who often rely on community support and understanding.
Upon arriving at the care facility, locally known as “Lar,” meaning home, the Pope was welcomed by staff and residents who gathered to greet him. The centre currently houses 62 elderly individuals, including both men and women, and operates as a key support institution within the region.
